There is a PC Show on 1 to 4 June. Go for some hands-on and freebies for cameras..

Sony cameras got one thing i dun like is they use memorystick instead of the usual SD card.

Actually depends which features u look out for when u buy.

Example is what kind of battery they use - AA or rechargeble.

The minimum shutter speed - 1 second is not good enough for Sony W30 as this means ur night shot of buildings cant be as nice as those with longer speed. Some camera offers as long as 15 secs.

The macro range... some are 5cm or even 2cm. Means u can take very close shots.

ISO, optical zoom, and a lot more......

Here got reviews and specific specs for all cameras, can go there and look http://www.dpreview.com/

brand wise i support canon cos image quality is good at least for powershot series. i'm using A80 mah ^^ like the semi pro settings can adjust the stuff to take pics at nite etc. better than ixus cos it has optical zoom, some ixus don't have.

other things i look out for is battery compatibility. no point those slim ones with built in rechargeable batteries cos spare is expensive and if you just nice take until low batt then that additional shot will cost you! might as well get those compatible with AA batteries so won't so jia lat when you go overseas shoot and can't charge it.

Canon is top of the list for me, though CF card a bit too big, so if you can get SD cards for Canon camera then it's goot!

Take care!

When IT show was ongoing this year, i compared the prices between sim lim and
IT show and sim lim prices still confirm the lowest for most models (except those super bargain items in the show which are most probably older models). But the IT, PC or Comex give more freebies. New cameras like Canon Ixus 800 IS, Panasonic Lumix FX01, etc surely more expensive at these shows.

Anyway, some sites that are good are http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/digitalcameras/

check out the forums and reviews in these websites. find out what is your priorities eg image stabilisation, iso levels, lcd screen size, lcd resolution, dimensions, image quality, etc before deciding on one.

For me, i would not choose Canon Powershot series coz they are too bulky, Canon IXUS 800 IS would be a very good choice. IXUS 60 is great too if u dun care too much about image stablisation.

Sony W series cameras are quite affordable and i think W50 cost around $450. W30 costs only $20 cheaper and i would definitely choose W50 over W30 anytime coz of the larger lcd screen. Reviews of W30/W50 lose out to Canon new range of ixus series.

Finally Panasonic, i personally own a FX01 and it's definitely a good camera most of the time. It also has image stabilisation which is good for taking shots with slower shutter speeds. I don't really recommend buying FX08 coz the model has been released for quite some time.

If i'm most concerned about price, i'll get Panasonic FX01. (SLS price range ~$599)

If i'm most concerned about size, i'll get Sony T30. (SLS price range ~$700)

If i'm most concerned about image quality, i'll get Canon IXUS 800 IS. (SLS price range ~$660)

All the 3 cameras listed above have optical image stabilisation. Digital image stabilisation is not as effective as optical IS.
